Our Story

Lynch’s Hub is a little café on the Newcastle Foreshore that was founded by the Forrester family in 2017 and named after the Lynch family, who operated a much-loved local business on the same site for many years.  At the time that it closed, their little shop had been running for well over 60 years. The Lynch’s were an important part of the fabric of the harbourside community in Newcastle. It was an integral part of our vision for the business that this little landmark on the harbour would be part of that fabric again, and so we kept the name Lynch’s as a nod to this ethos and to the Lynch family.

The staff at our little venue have been together a long time and we’ve become more like extended family than co-workers. Everyone brings something really special and very different to the mix and this passion shows in our menus and unique products.

Over the years our customers started to ask us to bottle various jams, preserves and sauces that featured on our menus for them to take home and share with their families and guests, or to gift on special occasions. So we did. Eventually that turned into a separate retail offering in our store, and then into Lynch’s Pantry as an online evolution of that offering.

You will notice that our products have a strong although not exclusive focus on native Australian ingredients.  We believe that food is culture. The true value of food is not just in the flavour but in the history and the stories and the little rituals. Our native flavours come dripping with these elements and we love sharing them.

While we are also not an exclusively vegan food business, you will also notice that a lot of our products are vegan friendly. This is part way intentional and part way happy coincidence. Several of our key staff members are vegan and as hospitality professionals, they’ve picked up a few innovative tricks over the years working with food. The fact is we just make the best food, with most unique flavours that we know how and that just often turns out to be vegan.

We love that Lynch’s Pantry allows us to be a part of how you share food with the people that you love no matter where you live. We love the way that this online format allows us to share the stories, history and culture of our foods with people. Most of all, because every part of every process involved in creating every item that we sell is performed right here in our little venue by our small team, so when you share our foods we feel a part of the history and the stories and the little rituals that you create with your family and friends.
